Part 3: Exercise - Signs and symbols

This exercise refers to understanding of semiotics and my ability to interpret and use sign and symbols in proper way in order to establish visual communication with audience.

Symbols had been used from prehistoric ages to nowadays digital era and it is considered as a first form of written language. Ancient cultures like Egyptian, Sumerian, and Chinese, used early symbols that were based on pictograms and ideograms and further developed them into logographic writing system. Chinese still uses logograms or ideograms to present whole word or concepts while languages such English uses abstract symbols (letters) to presents sounds known as phonograms.

Pictograms are still in use nowadays in a form of icons and symbols. Icons look like an object which being represented like a cup of coffee icon in a board on a highway which represents cafeteria. On the other hand, symbol is more abstract concept like red light on a traffic light which represents stopping.

For this exercise my goal was to explore four concepts: Danger, Movement, Love and Here and, by exploring history and meaning of existing signs and symbols create my own symbol for at least one concepts.

I used mind mapping  but not just only in a form of words but also in a form of images which I found very practical and useful at it helped me to better develop my ideas.

I will start it with a DANGER
