Part 2: Exercise - Visualizing your idea

Regarding this exercise I decided to create leaflet for volunteering work called “Save the Danube”. My aim is to attract as much as possible people to help clean and arrange river bank of the Danube and also to rise awareness about significance that the Danube has in our lives. First of all, it is the second longest river in Europe which connects ten countries and flows through four capital cities. It provides natural habitat for many species, and it is natural supplier of energy. I plan to distribute brochures on.

I made folded brochures from the A4 paper size. Since it is about the river I chose to fold paper with  triangle on one side, so it would present the sail of sailboat and I also folded a whole paper in a form of sailboat. In addition I explored some classic folding as well like double gate fold, accordion folds with eight panels ,and a parallel fold. I made a modified version of accordion fold with a pocket and bookmark which comes along.

I found best way to start is using mind mapping.

I also made thumbnails creating several small rough sketches on a one sheet of paper. I was exploring multiple ideas and layouts by doing this and I found it very useful because thumbnails rely on rough quick drawings and they helps generating ideas in short period of time.

For this exercise I used mood board (inspirational board) which I found very useful. I searched the internet and I found some very inspiring mood boards which served me as a good example on how I should do my own. I discovered that mood board is a very useful step toward design because it helps me gather all inspiring objects, images, and styles at one place so it makes whole process of design easier. Here are some good examples of mood boards that I came across during my research.

Finally I made some quick designs which are shown below.
